✅ Before Possession Day Checklist

🗓 1–2 Weeks Before Possession

• ☐ Set up utilities (electricity, gas, water, sewer, waste/recycling)

• ☐ Get home insurance (active on possession day or earlier)

• ☐ Arrange internet/cable setup

• ☐ Schedule mail forwarding via Canada Post

• ☐ Confirm possession date & time with your lawyer/realtor

• ☐ Book movers or a moving truck (do this 3-4 weeks out)

• ☐ Clean out your current home (including storage units, sheds, etc.)

• ☐ Change your address with banks, ID, subscriptions, employer, school, etc.

🧰 A Few Days Before Possession

• ☐ Pack an essentials box (toiletries, chargers, tools, snacks, etc.)

• ☐ Collect/sign documents with your lawyer

• ☐ Verify which keys, remotes, and garage openers will be provided

🚪 On Possession Day

• ☐ Do a full walkthrough (check appliances, lights, taps, etc.)

• ☐ Take photos of meter readings (gas, water, electricity)

• ☐ Test smoke & carbon monoxide detectors

• ☐ Change the door locks or rekey

• ☐ Update any security codes or smart lock settings

• ☐ Celebrate your new home! 🎉
